Either before or as your assessment proceeds you will be invited to attend a training course.
Most fostering providers use the Fostering Network course called "Skills to Foster". The course gives you the opportunity to learn more about foster care and fostering and is part of the assessment process.
This is also a chance to meet other people applying to become foster carers and to hear what approved foster carers have to say about their experiences of fostering.
Approval
The Fostering Panel will decide if you should be approved as a foster carer.
Contact AF.ws
You will recieve information and application packs from fostering agencies with vacancies. You choose who visits you.
Home assessment visit
A fostering social worker will visit to assess if fosteringf is for you.
Assessment
The assessment takes about 4 months and is about exploring your individual skills and experiences. It will explore about how fostering will affect you, your family and your friends. If you have children, it is important that you talk with them at an early stage about being part of a fostering family.
